Changing the Story Reading Programme

Lord Blyton Primary School has been very fortunate to have been selected to take part in the exciting new programme from Hachette UK and National Literacy Trust: the ‘Changing the Story Reading Programme.’
This programme focuses on supporting our KS1 children to further develop their reading skills, including phonic skills, reading for pleasure and sharing books with a grown-up.
All of our Reception children have been given login details for the Rising Stars Reading Planet online library. This will allow them
access to read the full selection of Reading Planet books over the Summer holiday and months to come, which contain all of the letters and sounds they have been taught over their year in Reception. As the children learn more sounds, more books will be added to their online library.
Some children will also benefit from extra ‘Changing the Story’ reading sessions when they transition into Year One.
We have also received the full KS1 and KS2 Rising Stars Reading Planet reading scheme which we have been able to slot into our existing reading scheme in school.
In addition to this we received a delivery of some fantastic reading for pleasure books, allowing us to be able to gift every child in Years One and Two and some children in Reception with a book to keep. We are expecting another delivery of brand new reading for pleasure books next academic year.
We also received some books which we were able to gift to our SEMH base teachers to use with their pupils.
Mrs Simpson has held parent workshops with some of our Reception parents and our Years 1 and 2 children shared their books during their Booknics before taking the books home.
I’m sure you will agree this is a great programme to be taking part in and will greatly benefit our children and further develop a love of reading within our school.
