The Three Year Old Nursery children celebrated Children’s Mental Health Week through the theme of ‘This is my Place.’ We explored the idea of belonging to our family through the beautiful story ‘The Kiss’. We talked about how the characters in the story care for one another and make each other feel safe and loved. We then thought about how the people in our own lives help us feel safe, loved and important. The children were invited to draw a picture of someone who makes them feel safe and loved. We spent time talking together about why these people are special, whether it was a family member, a friend or someone in our school community. The children shared thoughtful ideas about kindness, comfort and trust.
We sat in a circle and took turns passing a toy around. Whoever was holding the toy shared something that makes them feel happy and safe at school. The children spoke with confidence about the things that matter to them, from playing with friends to having a cosy reading corner, from enjoying snack time together to knowing that grown-ups are here to help.
To finish, we shared kind words about our friends, celebrating the ways we look after one another in Nursery, making sure we are kind to everybody and make all of our classmates feel important and valued. Belonging to our family and to Nursery helps us keep our heads happy and healthy.
