During Science Week our topic was “What is your question?” In the two-year-old nursery, the children became curious about animals that were frozen inside blocks of ice and wondered how we could free them.First, we tried using hammers to break the ice. This was great fun and the children enjoyed having a turn, but we quickly discovered that it was very hard work!Next, we explored different ways to melt the ice. We poured warm water over the blocks and carefully watched as the ice slowly melted away.Finally, we sprinkled salt onto the ice. The children were fascinated as they listened closely and heard the ice begin to crack. It was exciting to see how different methods helped us free the animals and explore what happens to ice when it melts.
