This half term in Design Technology, pupils across the school have been honing their textiles and sewing skills. In Year 3, we’ve focused on mastering both cross-stitch and running stitch. Inspired by our History and English topics, we designed and created Egyptian collars, linking our learning across subjects in a vibrant and creative way.
Through this project, we discovered that appliqué is a form of embellishment and used it to add unique patches to our collars. We explored a variety of fabrics, learning to identify their different types and qualities. Pupils thoughtfully considered both aesthetic appeal and functional purpose when making design choices, showcasing a deep understanding of the design process.
We concluded by evaluating our finished pieces—and the final results were truly eye-catching and impressive. Each collar told its own story, reflecting the creativity and skill of its maker.
