Year 5 have been investigating thermal insulators. They wrapped 3 cups in various materials – newspaper, cotton wool, and tin foil and kept one cup uncovered. Then they poured hot water into them to the same level and took the temperature of each one. Over the next thirty minutes they recorded the temperature of the water every five minutes. They found that the cotton wool kept the water the warmest, and therefore was the best thermal conductor.
