Barefoot Journey inspired by We’re Going on a Bear Hunt

Today our 3 Year Old Nursery children went on a barefoot journey in Forest School based on the story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen. We took our shoes and socks off then carefully stepped through the trays containing different textures from the story, in our bare feet! We used the repeated lines in the story to help us on our journey and talked about the long wavy grass, a deep cold river, thick oozy mud, a big dark forest and the swirling whirling snowstorm. We also used lots of lovely language to describe how each of the textures felt on our toes ‘cold’ ‘tickly’ ‘itchy’ slippy’ ‘like slime’ ‘ prickly like a hedgehog’ ‘squeltchy’ ‘wet’ Then Miss Collins gave us a lovely foot spa in some warm bubbly water and dried our feet before we crawled into the bear cave to give the bear a cuddle so he didn’t feel so lonely any more. It was so much fun we all had another go!!! We were all very brave trying something new. We talked about what we can do if our friends might be feeling lonely like the bear and how we could ask them to join our games or ask what they liked to play or help them if they were stuck or give them a hug.
