Year 1’s Visit to St Mary’s Lighthouse

Year One had a fantastic trip to St Mary’s Lighthouse last week. They enjoyed rock pooling where they discovered a range of different creatures. Some children were brave enough to hold the crabs and fish!!! We then had a lighthouse safety talk before climbing the 137 steps to the top of the lighthouse!!! The views were spectacular and we even spotted dolphins swimming nearby! It was so exciting! The children enjoyed dressing up and chatting about what life would have been like as a lighthouse keeper. When we were in the lighthouse we imagined how Grace Darling would have felt as she witnessed the sinking of the Forfarshire and how brave she must have been to assist in the rescue! The weather was lovely so we were able to have our picnic outdoors before a trip to the gift shop. We finished the day with some beach art which was lots of fun! The children’s behaviour was outstanding and they were a credit to our school! An amazing day was had by all!!
