Year 3 had a visit with staff from β€˜The Great North Museum: Hancock’ to find out more about the exciting history project that they will be taking part in this term. The β€˜Treasure Project’ involves four schools from the North East, and our school was chosen due to the strong links that we have with South Shields and Arbeia (The Roman Fort). Each school taking part in the project has been allocated a piece of historical treasure, with our school exploring a Roman β€˜cheek piece’ taken from a Roman soldier’s helmet. We discussed how historical artefacts are discovered, and how they are all classed as β€˜treasure’ because they help historians to learn more about the past. This week, we are going to visit the museum to meet with the curator, see the β€˜treasure’ and explore the exhibitions. We are particularly looking forward to seeing the Egyptian mummy as we are learning about Ancient Egypt at the moment. Our next step is to then work with an artist to bring our learning to life! ... A messy Monday in year 6! The task for today’s art lesson was to choose a positive emotion and use a range of media to create an abstract piece depicting this emotion in the style of artist Frank Bowling. The success criteria also asked for them to create different textures in their pieces. If you look closely you should be able to β€˜feel’ these textures on the paper! 🎨 πŸ–ŒοΈ πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ¨ πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ¨ ... See MoreSee Less
