The children in Year 1 had a wonderful time at Newcastle’s Theatre Royal last week. We were accompanied by some of our KS2 School Councillors who were very helpful. As part of The Children’s Bookshow, we enjoyed listening to a variety of stories by the author Catherine Rayner; read by the author herself! She even demonstrated how she illustrates her stories and gave the children some fantastic tips on how to be a good artist. As part of our learning about Diwali, the Hindu festival of light , the children in Nursery looked at photos of beautiful rangoli patterns which are used to decorate peoples homes during the celebration. These patterns are often a circle shape and made from brightly coloured rice, chalk, paint or flower petals and are lit with small candles called divas.
