This week in science year 5 have been looking at sieving and filtering. They tried to separate a mixture of water, rice and marbles through sieving and while we could get the water out using a sieve, separating the marbles and rice was more tricky. We tried a colander but some of the wet rice clung to the marbles. Next we had a go at filtering using coffee filter paper to separate sand and water. This was more successful with most of us managing to achieve pretty clear water in the end.
