Our Three Year Old Nursery children have been finding out about Rangoli patterns as part of learning about Diwali the Hindu and Sikh festival of Light. We looked at lots of different Rangoli patterns together and found out they are made on the ground with paint, chalk, coloured rice or flowers and are used to decorate peoples homes. Sometimes a candle or diva lamp is placed in the middle at night because Diwali is a celebration of Light. We noticed that the Rangoli patterns are bright colours and a circle shape. We searched Nursery to find lots of circle shaped objects and then used the Smart board to experiment with different designs before heading to Forest School where we used lots of natural objects loose parts and flower petals to make our own Rangoli patterns. We think you will agree they are all beautiful.
